A survey has revealed that most employees are happy with the levels of training they receive, according to The Grapevine Online.
Further proving that financial compensation isn't the be-all and end-all for the majority of the UK's workforce, research carried out by HR Consultancy firm, ETS has found that many people believe their employer is providing sufficient training and development; investing in their personal growth.
Respondents considered this as valuable as a pay increase in some cases.
The news should be welcomed by businesses who are perhaps struggling with remuneration, as training and development does not have to cost the earth.
A way for small businesses to free up some funds to put towards training is to make use of invoice factoring, which can release cash ahead of usual payment deadlines.
The survey of 400,000 employees found that development opportunities are on the rise. 77 per cent of respondents were "satisfied with the opportunities given to them." In 2007, this figure was just 67 per cent.
Additionally, 65 per cent were happier in the knowledge that the training provided was increasing their prospects for promotion and made them much more engaged.
Commenting on the survey, Hannah Stratford of ETS said: "It is more important than ever to engage and invest in employees and it's encouraging that companies seem to be doing just that.
"It shows what can be achieved," she continued at info4security.com, "by prioritising employee engagement as a business objective."
