Almost one-quarter of small or medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) who are members of the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) are keen to hire graduate employees.
Perhaps with visions of growing their businesses via this skilled, intelligent group of workers, 23 per cent of the SMEs said they'd happily employ graduates - given the right support.
In order to go do, they claim they will need extra support from the Mayor of London, whom the FSB has encouraged to promote graduate schemes throughout London. It is thought that support would be required both from a financial perspective and a training perspective.
However instead of waiting for Boris Johnson to implement more funding, these and other SMEs could consider freeing up funds via services like sales finance. This would give them the extra cash they needed to invest into areas such as wages and procuring the right training for these newly-educated workers.
If Johnson does decide to move ahead with the FSB's proposals, they could then grow their workforce and company more in the future.
Sue Terpilowski, a spokesperson for the FSB, spoke out on Pareto.co.uk about why the organisation's plans would work so well, stating: "The investment needed to reintroduce the scheme going forward would be more than outweighed by the contribution that the Treasury would see in reduced benefits payments and the increase tax-take from those that gain employment as a result.
"The UK's young people are the future of the economy," she added on Inspiresme.co.uk.
