Cash injection for Sheffield first aid firm
A Sheffield healthcare firm which provides match day first aid for football fans throughout Yorkshire has announced plans to roll out its services across the UK.
Established in 2004 and employing 120 people in Sheffield, UK Event Medical Services Ltd (UKEMS) specialises in supplying paramedic staff and ambulances to sporting and music events.
The business, which is also contracted to work for NHS Trusts and private hospitals, has appointed Lloyds TSB Commercial Finance to help it fulfil its national expansion and take sales past the £1 million barrier before the end of the year.
Headed up by Robert Kent (28), the company aims to tap into growing demand created by the NHS increasingly outsourcing paramedic work to third party operators as part of its national cost cutting initiative. EMS is also looking to pick up public event work previously carried out by voluntary organisations.
As part its expansion, EMS is adding three new ambulances worth over £200,000 to its fleet and opening a further office in Kirby Moorside.
Asset backed lender Lloyds TSB Commercial Finance will lend against the company’s sales ledger to provide the necessary cash flow to ensure contracts can be fulfilled as it expands.
James Scarborough, regional manager at Lloyds TSB Commercial Finance in Sheffield, said: "The voluntary sector in some areas is finding it increasingly difficult to provide first aid cover for public events. The support that EMS provides is therefore crucial.
"Opportunities for EMS within the hospital sector are growing all the time. Both the public and private sector are outsourcing more and more work, and the firm’s contacts put it a very strong position."
Robert Kent, managing director at EMS commented: "We have a steady income stream throughout the year, but seasonal peaks in demand caused for example by congested football fixture lists can potentially put pressure on our working capital.
"Recent and projected expansion required a re-assessment of our financial options. The facilities that we now have in place with Lloyds TSB Commercial Finance will certainly go a long way to ensuring we have adequate cash flow for national expansion."
